Dear Students,
The Assam Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research (AIMCMR) is committed to the cause of training socially committed and
responsible journalists who will uphold the core principles of journalism of freedom and fairness and would believe in the idea of
journalism without any fear and any kind of prejudice, and justice to all particularly to the marginalised in the society. Training
journalists to be gender sensitive is a particular commitment of the AIMCMR. The Institute believes that the aspirations of young girls
and boys to join the world of the media should be addressed seriously, and professional training in the print media, electronic media and
also radio should be made available at affordable costs so that aspirants from all sections of the society can move towards fulfilling
their dreams. To this end the Institute with necessary facilities in place, and its highly qualified and enthusiastic faculty, has been
producing media professionals under its two year Masters course affiliated to the Dibrugarh University. Our students have found excellent
placements not only in the world of journalism but also in other sectors which require media specialists. Over the years however many
young girls and boys have come to us enquiring whether they could get trained in adequate practical journalism in a shorter period of
time than what is required for a Masters degree. Keeping that in mind the AIMCMR has introduced from this academic year a oneyear diploma
course of it own so that more numbers of well trained journalists will find their places in the world of journalism. It is my sincere
hope that those in the society who desire the growth of socially committed, responsible, just and also gender friendly journalism will
encourage this endeavour of ours.
I am very happy to welcome all students who come with the dream of serving the society through healthy
journalism and I hope that everyone of you will have a fruitful time in AIMCMR.
Best wishes to all.
